Winston Duke Biography
Winston Duke is a Tobagonian actor who made his feature film debut as M’Baku in Black Panther (2018). He is famous for portraying the character in four films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Born in Tobago, he attended the Yale School of Drama where he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Acting in 2013.
After his studies, he had small roles in theater productions and TV shows such as Person of Interest and Modern Family. When he was young, his mother owned a restaurant and showed customers to their tables, and he learned how to “charm” strangers from an early age. When he was nine years old, his mother sold the restaurant and their belongings.
After that, they moved into a studio apartment in Brooklyn so his older sister Cindy could attend medical school. Duke began acting in theater productions for the Portland Stage Company and the Yale Repertory Theater before landing a role in Person of Interest. He was also cast in small roles in TV series such as Law and Order: Specia Victims Unit, among others.
In 2019, she starred in Us, a horror film directed by Jordan Peele. Later in October of that year, he signed Swagger but was replaced by O’Shea Jackson Jr. due to an injury sustained on set in February 2020. Duke was named GQ Australia’s Actor of the Year in September 2019. He then starred in Nine Days in 2020 and in March starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in Spencer Confidential.
