Tom Cruise, whose real name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, is an actor from the United States. He is one of the highest paid performers in the world and has won many honors including an Honorary Palme d’Or, three Golden Globe Awards and four Academy Award nominations. With over $4 billion in North American box office receipts and over $11.5 billion worldwide, his films have made him one of the biggest box office stars of all time.

He began participating in a play in fourth grade, thanks to acting teacher George Steinburg. At the Carleton Elementary School theater festival, he and six other students performed IT, an improvised play with music. With the approval of his mother and stepfather, Cruise moved to New York at the age of 18 to pursue an acting career. He moved to Los Angeles to audition for television jobs after working as a busboy in New York. He joined CAA and started acting in films. In 1981 he made his big screen debut in a small role in Endless Love. Later that year, he played a major supporting role in Taps as a military academy student with dementia. He was a member of the entire cast of The Outsiders in 1983. That same year, he appeared in All the Right Moves and Risky Business, which have been hailed as “a Generation X classic and a career-maker for Tom Cruise”.
It was revealed in May 2020 that Cruise would star in and produce a film set in space. The film will be directed, written and co-produced by Doug Liman.
