Anna Torv is an Australian actress. She is popular for portraying the roles of Olivia Dunham in the Fox science fiction series Fringe, Wendy Carr in the Netflix crime thriller series Mindhunter, and Tess in the HBO post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us (2023). Her performance on Fringe earned her four Saturn Awards for Best Actress on Television.
Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Anna attended All Saints Anglican School and Benowa State High School, graduating in 1996. Anna then enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating with a BA in Performing Arts in 2001. Torv began acting in 2003 when she appeared playing the role of Ophelia in John Bell’s production of Hamlet. The following year, she joined the cast of the acclaimed Australian television drama The Secret Life of Us, playing Nikki Martel.
Torv recorded a series of Collection audiobooks, including Little Fingers, Jack’s Owl, Spike and Maddy in the Middle, and later voiced Nariko in the 2007 video game Heavenly Sword. Additionally, he also appeared in the BBC series Mistresses in 2008. Five years later, Torv appeared in the American television series Fringe where she played the role of Agent Olivia Dunham. Following the show’s launch, she was awarded in 2009 and was also nominated five times for the Saturn Award for Best Television Actress from 2009 to 2013. Torv also appeared as Virginia Gray in the HBO miniseries The Pacific and later starred in a CollegeHumor Original Video as a tyrannical police traffic warden.
In 2021, Torv was cast in the ABC series The Newsreader, where she played the role of Helen Norville in the series for which she won the AACTA Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Likewise, she also won the 2022 Logie Award for Best Actress. In the same year, Torv also appeared in the ABC television series Fires. In addition, Anna was cast as Wendy Carr, an FBI consultant, in the Netflix drama Mindhunter. Most recently, she appeared in the role of Tess in the HBO series The Last of Us which premiered in January 2023.
