Andrea follows Dasani, a girl whose imagination soars as high as the buildings around her Brooklyn shelter, over eight eventful years in her novel The Invisible Child. Andrea weaves together the story of Dasani’s youth with her family’s, chronicling their journey from slavery to the North of the Great Migration.
She is an investigative reporter for the New York Times and is currently on leave so she can write a book for Penguin Random House on child poverty. She has focused on long-form, compelling journalistic work since joining the Times in 2003. Her three-part piece, “An Imam in America,” won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing. Her research has focused on the radicalization of Somali immigrants in Minneapolis as well as the development of the anti-Sharia movement.
