Biography of Alistair Petrie
Alistair Petrie is a British actor who starred in The Bank Job (2008), Cloud Atlas (2012), Rush (2013) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). He also starred in Utpioa, The Night Manager, Sherlock and Undercover. Recently, he was cast in the role of Mr. Groff in the Netflix series Sex Education.
Born in Catterick, North Riding of Yorkshire, he grew up in the Middle East, mainland Europe and East Africa. Petrie trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He then spent his early career in theater around the country before joining the RSC.
In 2005 he joined the National Theatre, where he stayed for about 28 months performing in His Dark Materials. Later in 2008, he played the title role of Man in Mine and shared the experience at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds. He played Heaton in The Duchess (2008).
On television, he played Geoff in Utopia and later played the role of Major Shelton in the second episode of season 3 of the BBC television series Sherlock which aired on 5 January 2014. He went on to play Dr Stephen in The Terror in 2018 and was cast in role of Mr. Groff in the 2019 Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education.
