The chapter, titled “Rachel’s Big Kiss”, tells how Rachel meets Melissa (Winona Ryder) one of her friends in the famous cafeteria in Central Park. Both studied together in college and in the plot, they meet for dinner and reminisce about the good old days.
What her friends discover is that Rachel and Melissa had a little romance at the time, as Rachel tells Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow).
Her friend does not believe her and Rachel asks her to accompany her to dinner so that Melissa herself can tell her about the kiss they had in college.
Back at the restaurant, Rachel tries to remind her friend of their kiss and that they were wearing a coconut bathing suit, which Melissa, at first, says seems really weird, as she doesn’t remember anything.
After the whole dinner party denies the kissing affair, Rachel kisses him and only then does Melissa admit that she remembers everything about her and has dreamed of her ever since. Rachel doesn’t know what to say, and Melissa ends up bragging that it was all a joke and leaves.
In the last scene of the chapter, Phoebe kisses Rachel on the mouth and says she is doing nothing wrong, much to Rachel’s amazement.
The legendary series premiered on September 22, 1994, and in a decade of broadcasts, its protagonists have gone from unknowns to global stars.
Friends ceased broadcasting on May 6, 2004, and the careers of its members have not been the same.
